Evaluation
This is a video of somebody within the age of my target audience, they are watching my film opening and they are going to give me some un-biased feedback, positives and negatives of my film opening.
The reason I chose to record his actions is because it is a way to identify if my film matches the target audience i chose to aim it at. This is a good technique and could be used by other media producers in order to gain criticism to make their product better before releasing it for the public to see.
Evaluation
How did you attract/address your audience?
We came up with many things that would attract our target audience of young people aged 17-19 to watch our film, one of these is we included young people to act in the film, this makes the audience relate to the film more because everything that character does would be an act on how themselves act. Also the costumes, I made our character wear very casual clothing that would be seen as cool at this moment in time, our audience will be able to relate to this character more than if it was a 70 year old man. I feel it's crucial to try and get your audience engaged and feel they relate to the characters.
We also made the titles of the film look very modern to keep the audience engaged when they watch it, this is good because if they seen a dull 'outdated' introduction title they probably wouldnt want to watch it anymore, so I done the best I could to make it look modern and also 'cool'.
I also showed the film to a class full of students within my age group and they watched it a few times, taking notes and then they gave back what they thought worked well and what could be improved. I done this before the deadline so that I could choose things out of the criticism that I could change in order to make it better.
Here is a screenshot of the promo, this is what is shown after the menu screen and just before the introduction titles, this will attract the audience because it's quite bright and the sound also is like an explosion, this will attract teens because its loud and catches the eye and is far from dull so this should tempt them to carry on watching.

Evaluation
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Well, the preliminary task was a quick, and simple task. The shots used in the preliminary were very basic, involving a close up of match on action, mid shots, over the shoulder shots and a little bit of dialect, that was rather easy compared to the challenges I had to face when filming the full product.
Since the preliminary task I have learnt many different and complex shot types, including tracking shots, high angle shots, low angle shots etc.. As I was filming a film opening I know I would have to add a variety of different shot types into it so i had to learn them all and practice filming these types of shots in order to film them to the best of my ability when it came to the real thing.
With the preliminary it was so quick and wasn't taken so serious but when it came to the real product I focused solely on perfecting each shot to make it look as professional as i could, on the way learning how to use a Tri-pod, in order to make each shot steady and not shake as it would if i was filming with the camera in my hand.
Also in the preliminary there was no editing involved so one thing I have learned since then would be using the editing programmes to edit clips to make them as clean and professional as possible. Without the editing programmes my film opening would be unprofessional and basically would just have lots of cuts going to the next scene instead of doing it professionally and making clips fade in to one another etc..

EVALUATION
How does your media product represent certain social groups? (Textual analysis)
The clip begins with a main menu screen from high up, as a bird’s eye view shot of the ground. You see red paint splat against the wall which is the background, you hear the splat sound, representing death and also the colour of the splat on the wall is red which symbolises horror and violence.
Once the play button is pressed it fades to our promo clip, giving the audience the name of my group which is Supernova, this name was chosen because the sun is full of energy and so is our group, giving lots of new ideas etc.
We hear dark, sinister music, showing us the clip is going to start, ask the music gets louder and start to build tension it cuts instantly to an extreme close-up of the actor’s eye. The camera then slowly tracks out revealing the characters body, he is led on the floor just waking up, and the character looks baffled symbolising he may have been in danger previously, this represents the male being dominated and feeling weak, this could be seen as a modern view of men. The character then gets up scratches his head in amazement of how confused he is and starts to walk out of the scene. The camera changes into a high shot; the camera has a green effect to make it look like a CCTV camera, showing the audience he may be being watched, hinting to them the genre of the movie which is horror, again this is showing the audience that the male is being dominated and feeling powerless.
Next we see a close-up of the character looking into the mirror, he turns on the tap and washes his face, and the sound of the water running is synchronous. He washes his face and we hear more sinister sounds, as if there’s something/someone in the room with him. The camera tracks in to his face, and we see bugs crawl up the characters face, the character is looking scared which is a modern view of men because traditionally men would be seen as masculine and "fearless". This atmosphere in the clip at the moment again is representing horror.
As the previous scene fades, it goes into the next scene. Here the character is walking out of the bathroom and back into the living room (location of first scene) the camera deliberately goes fuzzy implying that he’s feeling drowsy, this could be due to the bugs, they may have had an effect on them, and the music during this is quite sinister and creates the horror atmosphere.
The character then drops and passes out, this leaves the audience think the bugs have killed him. There is a close up of his arm, the camera slowly drifts up his arms, and then again but up his leg. We next see the characters face, the music is tense at this point and then this is when the character wakes up and screams, with a horrific face, leaving the audience quite scared. The clip then goes black and we think it’s over but then we hear a synchronous door bell sound and the character wakes up as if it was all a dream and heads down stairs..

EVALUATION
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Dazzle films is a small film distribution company, they handle the exclusive distribution, exhibition and sales rights for movies, from 90-second, digital micro-movies to bigger films with a bigger budget. A lot of the films they have distributed have become quite successful, winning small film awards at film festivals. Like many small media companies many of their films have been filmed using handheld cameras oppose to professional expensive cameras, i've also only used handheld cameras.
I believe Dazzle films would distribute our media product due to the fact that we are small and have not had a budget when filming our project, however our film is unique and i think would attract many people. A company that is quite small and has a small budget to distribute films is more likely to distribute ours as well as ours is small budget too.

Location Shoot
Chosen Location Shoot
This is a photo shoot we took of the location regarding our project, its a flat based in kingswood, the flat consists of a living room, small kitchen, small bedroom and a bathroom. We chose this as it really suits our genre which is horror, we blocked all sunlight out to make the room look extremely dark to fit the genre.

Bad boys 2 textual analysis (action)
Bad Boys 2
As we see the titles of the films, in the background is pills there is loads of them they are drug pills, this lets us know that the film is going to have crime etc in it, this kind of tells us the genre of the film but not fully.
As the clip goes on we see they bag up the drugs and put them into coffins, and this is their way of smuggling them, we witness this is a drug deal. The camera goes over the sea and then into a close up of a man on the phone, just by looking at this man we can see he's going to be a main character and also we can tell he has some sort of link to the drugs we saw earlier. He then mentions theres $150m dollars worth of drugs.
we next see a close up of a man taking a gun out of a draw, by seeing a gun we know that their is going to be violence which indicates the genre of the film is action/crime.

The mechanic textual analysis (Action)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIm18bKtLY8&feature=related
At the start of the clip you see the titles and then you see a airplane and some nice cars on either side of it, you then see people whom look like business men come out of the plane and get into one of the cars. There is five cars all behind one another, they look as if they are body guards for the guy and they are following him to make sure nothing happens to him, this tells the audience he is going to be an important character.
The clip cuts from the nice area they're driving in to another area which looks more broken down and tatty, the men jump out the car with guns and one of the guys hit an innocent man, by seeing guns we see that the genre of the film may be action. While all of this happens the main guy stays in the car, this tells us as the audience that he's a powerful character and the other guys are working for him.
Once thats over they all drive into a very big mansion where there is servants waiting outside, this emphasises how powerful this man is. The guy walks through his out and gets into his swimming pool, again showing us that he is rich and if you think back to the gun scene it indicates maybe hes a criminal of some sort maybe a drug dealer.
As the guy is swimming he goes under water to get something and another guy is under there and attacks him until hes dead, the fact someone has killed him tells us he has done things to make people want to get revenge, all of this establishes the genre which is action.

Our chosen genre
our chosen genre is horror, we chose this genre because we found that we came up with alot more ideas for that genre oppose to others. We also decided it would be more realistic as the props we would need are more reasonable and easier to get, whereas props for action may be harder to get.
With locations we found more places that suit horror, places like broken down buildings, forests and other places that would look quite scary when its dark.
We also needed to be able to establish the genre within the first 2 minutes, so with the right music we would be able to do this easily whereas another genre like comedy would be harder to establish within two minutes.
We considered doing action and we watched many action openings and did textual analysis' on the but we couldnt come up with a story line that wasnt mpossible to pull of with just two minutes, we came up with a lot more ideas for horror and thats why we chose horror as our genre.
Possible locations 2
Possible locations for filming
Here is a number of photos that i've went out and taken, these photos are possible locations where we could film. The locations all suit the horror genre and they will near enough instantly establish the genre of our clip, which is horror.
we took the photos to get a sense of where we want to film and what it needs to look like, also while taking pictures it helped us develop our ideas and come up with possible story lines for our clip.

Scream Textual Analysis
The clip starts with quite scary sounds, then when it says scream in text you can hear quiet screaming behind the music, this suggests to the audience the film is a horror. We then hear a phone ringing and it cuts from the text saying 'scream' to a girl picking up the phone to answer it.
When she answers the phone we hear quite a low pitched voice which is quite scary and we can see this by the close up of the girls face. she looks worried so she puts the phone down and when she turns around the phone rings again,

The clip is really good because it matches our chosen genre which is horror.

Freddy VS Jason Textual Analysis
Next we see a long shot of a little girl, she looks like shes hiding, we almost straight away see a man using a machine to sharpen a knife, this lets the audience know there may be some violence in the movie. By having this in the scene it lets us know the audience for the movie is aimed at older people, possibl 18 +.
We see the male character and he has photos of people and sticks to them to a photo album, the way he does this looks evil which is creating the sense of horror again , this keeps the audience engaged in the movie and gets them scared.
we next see a group of adults holding fire sticks, these people look angry, we see them throw the fire sticks through the window where the man we see as evil is, the screen then goes back and we see a close up of half of his face, he no longer looks like a human he looks more like a monster, again creating a sense of horror.
The whole clips is a traditioal representation of men and how they are more involved in doing things like crime and abnormal things oppose to women doing it.

Location images
Here is a few images taken off a camera, the images are of possible locations where we could film our 2 minute opening. these locations are based aroud our school site so its easy access. we will also go out and look for other locations in other areas as their may be other places with more suitable locations.

Questionnaire
Here we designed a questionnaire in order to find out things our audience see when they watch horrors and what they expect when they watch horrors. By doing this it allows us to come up wih ideas that fits in with what our audience want to see. Also the questionnaire helped us to come up with ideas for our 2 minute opening and also what we can change in order to get the best results for a horror movie.
From the results of my questionnaire i have leart that lots of people like horror movies, this helps me because i know that people would watch my clip because it is horror, whereas if it was a differet genre they may not have watched it.
I also learnt that more people like violent horrors oppose to psychological horrors, again this helps me because i know that the audiece would like my horror to be violent instead of psychological.
I asked some people if they like to see something dramatic happen in the first 2 minutes of a horror, and majority said yes they do. This shows me that i should try to create something to happen within the first 2 minutes to entertain the audience.
I asked if the audience are able to establish the genre within the first 2 minutes and the results i got back were balaced, this tells me some people can establish the genre and others cant, to me i think its important to give hints of what genre the clip is.

Summary Of Chosen Genre
Summary Of Chosen Genre
Our second choice was action and the reason we never chose this genre was because
its oo unrealistic
We chose the thriller/horror genre for a
number of reasons, one reason is that it’s easier to get props/resources needed
such as costumes/make up, and because we have watched lots of horrors and have
developed an understanding of what makes a good horror/thriller movie we can use this understading and put it in our film opening.
We also have locations local to us that
are suitable for the horror/thriller genre but if we shot an action film there
it wouldn’t look right and we need to ensure everything we do is suitable for the genre we choose.
we also chose horror because its an interesting genre and is very popular with movies such as saw, paranormal activity ad freddy vs jason, so we could gain ideas from watchig openings of films like this.
and from the ideas we had we wouldn’t have the
resources needed to film the clip. Our idea consisted of police chases, robberies, explosions and gun shootings which we cannot do because we cant get the props and we dont have a budget to spend.

Somebody Help Me 2 Opening
First off we hear some sinister music which hints to the audience the genre of the movie, which is horror/thriller. After a few seconds of this music we start to hear sounds behind the music, we hear water drops and quiet bangs, and a little girl giggle this again lets the audience know that the genre of the movie is horror/thriller.
We next see a close up of a girl, she has a bandage around where her eyes were but she doesn't have eyes, to the audience she is dead and she is perhaps a ghost now, this emphasises the fact of the film being a horror/thriller.
We hear the girl singing a song, but the actual song and the way she sings it is quite scary and this is what attracts the audience to watch it especially when they see it on the trailer they want to go and watch it when it comes out in the cinema. Next we hear synchronus sounds of footsteps where we then see a man walking down a corridor, the place looks quite empty, perhaps its an old broken down building.
